Featured event: The 2025 Waste Audit
Who: On November 6th of this 2025 JP ZeroWaste, ReThink Disposable, Recirclable, and a slew of volunteers performed a waste audit of Jamaica Plain’s public trash between Pond and Custer Street.
Why: We are wanting to know that our initiatives will make a difference so this was giving us an estimate of what the JP community throws out in a 24 hour period. We will repeat once our initiatives are up and going to give us an idea if we made a difference.
What: We sorted through the 320 pounds of garbage to get a snapshot of JP’s waste Stream.

We found 284 coffee cups, 102 straws, 54 plastic utensils, and 56 pounds of compostable food waste. Over half of what we sorted out could have gone to compost or recycling, but instead went into the waste stream, where it will go to landfill or be incinerated.

Take the Pledge
Take the pledge to bring your own coffee mug, bag, and utensils. Join us in the fight to make JP a cleaner place.
